As Human Resources Managers take on
increased responsibilities, multi-media can assist them to more effectively
manage their time and resources.
- Recruitment - Educate prospective employees
about your organization’s requirements and expectations in a way that
economizes HR staff resources.
- Orientation/Video Tour - For new and current
employees, a motivational overview of the company’s history, mission, values,
goals and the key role that staff play in the company’s success.
- Training - Organizations that conduct any type
of training (benefits, civil rights) can have sessions videotaped. The
benefits of this one-time investment are:
- New staff trained on-demand,
- HR staff can expand the reach of their training while
freeing up their time,
- Video can serve as a backup or refresher course.
- Teaching/Instruction - Use video as a teaching
tool to improve staff performance. Great for critique of public speaking and
evaluation of instruction or counseling techniques.
- Demonstration - For “How To” purposes.
Demonstrate how to utilize your product or service. Video/DVD can be sold or
included as a companion to an instruction manual.
- Uniform Presentation - Volunteer and other
organizations can standardize instructional information, facilitating a more
consistent message from a diverse group of individuals.

New Mexico Jury Orientation
This 20-minute video, completed in June 2008, received a silver Cumbre award from the New Mexico Public Relations Society of America chapter. It is the first ever statewide jury orientation video for New Mexico and was distributed for use by all trial courts around the state. The video, commissioned by the Committee for the Improvement of Jury Services in New Mexico, under the guidance of the New Mexico Supreme Court, includes a history of the jury system, including a medieval re-enactment by volunteers from the Society for Creative Anachronism. Typical courtroom layout (via a virtual tour) is covered along with a summary of the jury selection process and an explanation of courtroom procedures during criminal and civil trials. The presentation also features juror interviews done in Las Cruces, Alamogordo, Roswell, Carlsbad, Las Vegas, Santa Fe, Grants and Albuquerque. Because New Mexico is the only state currently allowing non-English speaking jurors to serve, the video features a Spanish-speaking juror and is closed-captioned in Spanish. The video also includes a translator for a hearing-impaired juror.
“This video features New Mexicans from all over the state talking about their jury experiences.”
“We hope these shared experiences, plus the educational information on the video will prepare our jurors and make them more comfortable and ready for the courtroom process. The video is also well shot and has high production values to make it entertaining as well.” Supreme Court Chief Justice Edward L. Chávez

Heritage Home Healthcare & Hospice
Avista produced this orientation video to ensure that all employees were welcomed by the company’s husband and wife owners, and that they received a uniform message about the organization’s mission, vision, values and history. The company’s expansion and owner’s travel requirements often precludes them from attending all new employee orientation sessions, thus making this Orientation Tool ever more important.
